Presented by Janette Muir, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education / Associate Professor, George Mason University

From Martha Washington to Melania Trump, women have played important roles in supporting their presidential spouses. This talk highlights the changing role of First Ladies and the way the Office of the First Lady has evolved over time. According to Muir, who has written about first ladies and their rhetoric for many years, the job of the First Lady is such a “major” and “essential” one that “if there wasn’t a first lady, they would invent one.” This program will be a great follow-up to our April 7 author event about the Kennedys in the White House.

Fee: $5 all participants
