Marc Leepson will present a lively talk on how Francis Scott Key came to write the National Anthem and Key's views on slavery and patriotism. He will also take a look at the unique and special feelings Americans have for the Stars and Stripes. In light of events in the news regarding athletes and others disrespecting the flag and anthem, as well as Civil War statues toppling, these iconic symbols are on the minds of many of us. This timely talk will be based on his books, Flag: An American Biography and What So Proudly We Hailed: Francis Scott Key: A Life.
Mr. Leepson will be signing copies of his books following the presentation.
