Author Talk with Laura Cantor Zelman, "In My Father’s Words: The World War
II Letters of an Army Doctor"
When author Laura Cantor Zelman and her sister cleaned out their parents’ house after their passing, they found an amazing collection of hundreds of letters written by
their father, a Jewish American who served as a U.S. Army doctor during World War II. The letters, dated from 1941 to 1945, provide a first-hand account of the conditions of the soldiers’ medical care, censorship of correspondence home, the Nazis, German POW’s, and army life. They are a fascinating tribute to the heroic work of military doctors in war time and the many sacrifices they make for our country.
