Tiny Tutus & Toddler Tales

Mondays, October 8–May 29 (30 weeks)

Ages: 2–3 (Must be 2 as of 9/30)
Instructor: Brenda Forsley
Through stories, dance movement, instruments, and some crafts, these tiny dancers will develop their creativity and learn dancing skills in a fun and nurturing environment. Ballet attire and pink leather ballet shoes are suggested. Boys and girls can wear comfortable clothing which allows a wide range of movement (no dresses or jeans) is optional as well as clean light sneakers without heavy soles. Hair should be secured away from the face.

Twinkle Toes Tap

Dancers in this class will be introduced to tap through music, movement, and balance. Basic tap steps and skills will be learned through games and activities. Jeggings, leggings, comfortable pants, leotard and tights or bobby socks are suggested dancewear for this class. Tap shoes are required. Hair should be secured away from the face.

For young dancers wishing to learn ballet, this class will focus on learning how to express themselves through movement and form while developing grace and discipline. Vocabulary and basic ballet techniques appropriate for the age level will be introduced. Ballet attire and pink leather ballet shoes are required. Hair should be secured away from the face with a pony tail, braids, clips, or headband.

Combining Ballet & Tap together introduces a variety of rhythmic and elegant dance movements. Dancers will begin to recognize patterns of percussion in addition to learning basic ballet skills. Ballet attire, tights or bobby socks, tap shoes, and pink leather ballet shoes are required. Hair should be secured away from the face.

Hip Hoppers

Your movin’ and groovin’ hip hopper will explore the high and low moves of hip hop along with the stomps and steps of this newest form of dance. Youth Enrichment Dance Classes

Tap & Groove

This energetic and exciting class is designed to provide young dancers an introduction into the fundamentals of tap dance. Early exposure to the rhythms and unique mind-to-foot connection that is associated with tap dance will allow the student to progress and excel in the art as they move through life. Dancers should wear a leotard or jazz pants, or leggings with a solid colored t-shirt, tap shoes (lace-up preferred). Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

Tappin’ Time

Tappers in this class will learn tap-rhythm and timing. Proper terminology and musicality is stressed in this more advanced class. The class will consist of warm-up, center work, and across the floor training. Tap steps such as shuffles, flaps, time steps, buffalo, drawbacks, and more will be introduced and then combined to learn dance routines to all types of music. Dancers should wear a leotard or jazz pants, or leggings with a solid colored t-shirt, tap shoes (lace-up preferred). Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

Tappers in Motion

Mondays, October 8–May 20 (28 weeks)

In this technique focused class, tappers will learn more tap-rhythms, sounds, and combinations. The class will progress onto riffs, pullbacks, time steps, complex turns, and extensive warm-ups. Students will be challenged to demonstrate the ability to build speed while keeping the clarity of their taps clean. Add all of this to more complicated combinations and intricate dance routines, and this becomes a fun and stimulating class. Dancers should wear a leotard, or jazz pants, or leggings with a solid colored t-shirt, tap shoes (leather and lace-up preferred). Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

Ballet & Tap

This class combines the elegance of Ballet with the rhythm of Tap. Students will develop fluidity, expressive movement, and flexibility while they learn ballet technique and rhythmic patterns of tap. It provides the opportunity to experience and enjoy the variety of two dance forms. Dancers should wear a leotard (any color), pull on skirt (optional), tights, or ankle socks, ballet shoes, tap shoes. Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a neat bun, ponytail, braid, or headband.

Boys Abound!

Students in this boys-only dance class, will develop coordination, balance, and agility skills necessary for both dance and sports. This class will build strength, flexibility, and discipline in an energetic and fun environment. Boys should wear comfortable clothing such as sweat pants or shorts, tee-shirt, light sneakers (not with heavy soles), jazz shoes, or boys’ ballet shoes.

Modern

Modern dance evolved from already established ballet movements. Modern master instructors such as Martha Graham, Mark Morris, and Jose Limon successfully explored a new style of presenting this dance form. This art form explores our experiences and expectations of modern life today. Dancers are required to wear a solid colored leotard, footless tights, bare feet, foot pads (optional), or ankle socks. Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a ponytail, braid, or bun.

Ideas in Motion

Can you explode like a volcano? Become the highest mountain or lowest valley? This new dance class blends dance moves with school curriculum. Need some imaginative help with your homework assignment or classroom lesson? This class will help you feel the math and stretch your farthest in geography. Dancers learn to “think on their feet” as they use their bodies to demonstrate their ideas. Comfortable clothing which is easy to move in is suggested for this class. Clean sneakers or dance shoes such as jazz or ballet are recommended.

Plie Ballet

This beginning ballet class will teach dancers the fundamentals of ballet and basic technique. They will learn ballet vocabulary and its associated movement. Form, discipline, and focus will be emphasized in this class, as well as performance skills and stage presence. Dancers should wear pink leotard, pink pull-on skirt (optional), pink tights, pink full-soled leather ballet shoes. This is an intermediate level ballet class which will build on the dancer’s ballet foundation and technical skills. Barre protocol and exercises will be introduced, as well as combinations and choreography. Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a neat bun (preferred), ponytail, braid, or headband.

An introduction to hip hop dance for young dancers. Using games and music, the class focuses on rhythm, musicality and basic footwork. This class encourages dancers to express themselves freely through movement while keeping it “cool.” It is a fun way to get kids moving! Clean street sneakers, hip hop sneakers, shorts or comfortable pants, and a solid colored tee shirt are required. Hair must be secured away from the face.

This beginning jazz class will introduce the dancer to the fundamentals of jazz. Basic jazz positions and steps such as parallel positions and jazz walks will be integrated into the dancer’s jazz vocabulary and definition of movements. Students should wear tan jazz shoes, jazz pants, leotard, or solid colored t-shirt. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

As jazz is a more expressive form of dance than ballet, the dancers in this intermediate level class will learn to use more energetic movements when performing jazz steps. Dancers will focus on executing higher levels of jazz moves such as pivot turns, jazz squares, and side leaps. Students should wear tan jazz shoes, jazz pants, leotard or solid colored t-shirt. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

This class is a more technical intermediate jazz class for students with 1–3 years of experience. Dancers will learn various turns and leaps, and explore a variety of jazz styles such as jazz funk, contemporary jazz, and musical theatre jazz. Students should wear tan jazz shoes, jazz pants, leotard or solid colored t-shirt. Hair should be pulled away from the face with a neat ponytail or braid.
