Petite (Preschool) Dance Classes

Tiny Tutus and Toddler Tales
Mondays, 12:50pm–1:35pm
Session II
January 8–May 30 (18 weeks)
(no class Jan. 15, Feb. 19, May 21, 28)
Ages: 2–3 (Must be 2 as of 9/30)
Instructor: Brenda Forsley
Through stories, crafts, and dance movement, these tiny dancers will develop their creativity and learn dancing skills in a fun and nurturing environment. Ballet attire and pink leather ballet shoes are suggested. Comfortable clothing which allows a wide range of movement (no dresses or jeans) is optional. Hair should be secured away from the face.

Petite Ballet
Tuesdays, 1:15pm–2pm

Ages: 3–5 (Must be 3 as of 9/30)

For young dancers wishing to learn ballet, this course focuses on learning how to express themselves through movement and form while developing grace and discipline. Vocabulary and basic ballet techniques are also introduced. Ballet attire and pink leather ballet shoes are required. Hair should be secured away from the face.

Petite Ballet & Tap

Combining ballet and tap together introduces a variety of rhythmic and elegant dance movements. Dancers will begin to recognize patterns of percussion in addition to learning basic ballet skills in this dance class. Ballet attire, tap shoes, and pink leather ballet shoes are required.

Petite Tap & Tumbling
Thursdays, 1:15pm–2pm

Ages: 3–5
Instructor: Brenda Forsley
Combining tap and tumbling, this class offers strength and flexibility training that is also fun exercise. Dancers learn the patterns and percussion of tap along with the grace and balance of tumbling. Comfortable clothing that allows for a wide range of movement (no dresses or blue jeans) is recommended. Ballet attire is also acceptable. Tap shoes and leather ballet shoes are required — bare feet and slip free socks are optional.

Jammin’ Jazz & Hip Hop

Your movin’ and groovin’ dancer will explore the beats and rhythms of jazz and the high and low moves of hip hop. Comfortable clothing that allows a wide range of movement (no dresses or jeans) and clean sneakers are required.

Youth Enrichment Dance Classes

Tap

Twinkle Toes Tap
Mondays, January 8–May 14 (16 weeks)

Ages: 5–7
Instructor: Niya Kight
This energetic and exciting class is designed to provide young dancers an introduction into the fundamentals of tap dance. Early exposure to the rhythms and unique mind-to-foot connection that is associated with tap dance will allow the student to progress and excel in the art as they move through life. Dancers should wear a leotard or jazz pants, or leggings with a solid colored t-shirt, tap shoes (lace-up preferred). Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

Tween Tap
Mondays, January 8–May 14 (16 weeks)

5:30pm–6:15pm
Ages: 8–12
Instructor: Niya Kight
Tappers in this class will learn tap-rhythm and timing. Proper terminology and musicality is stressed in this more advanced class. The class will consist of warm-up, center work, and across the floor training. Tap steps such as shuffles, flaps, time steps, buffalo, drawbacks, and more will be introduced and then combined to learn dance routines to all types of music. Dancers should wear a leotard or jazz pants, or leggings with a solid colored t-shirt, and tap shoes (lace-up preferred). Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

In this technique focused class, tappers will learn more tap-rhythms, sounds, and combinations. The class will progress onto riffs, pullbacks, time steps, complex turns, and extensive warm-ups. Students will be challenged to demonstrate the ability to build speed while keeping the clarity of their taps clean. Add all of this to more complicated combinations and intricate dance routines, and this becomes a fun and stimulating class. This class also accepts adult tap students who are looking for a higher level challenge.

Basic Ballet

This beginning ballet class will teach dancers the fundamentals of ballet and basic technique. They will learn ballet vocabulary and its associated movement. Form, discipline, and focus will be emphasized in this class as well as performance skills and stage presence.

Dress Code: Pink leotard, pink pull-on skirt (optional), pink tights, pink full-soled leather ballet shoes. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a neat bun (preferred), ponytail, braid, or headband.

Releve Ballet

This is an intermediate level ballet class which will build on the dancer’s ballet foundation and technical skills. Barre protocol and exercises will be introduced, as well as combinations and choreography.
Dress Code: Black leotard, black pull-on skirt (optional), pink tights, pink full-soled leather ballet shoes. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a neat bun (preferred), ponytail, braid, or headband.

Jazz

Junior Jazz
Thursdays, January 4–May 24 (19 weeks)

Ages: 5–6
Instructor: Maggie Stem
This beginning jazz class will introduce the dancer to the fundamentals of jazz. Basic jazz positions and steps such as parallel positions and jazz walks will be integrated into the dancer’s jazz vocabulary and definition of movements.

Dress Code: Students should wear tan jazz shoes, jazz pants, leotard or solid colored t-shirt. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.

Pivotal Jazz
Thursdays, January 4–May 24 (19 weeks)

Ages: 7+
Instructor: Maggie Stem
As jazz is a more expressive form of dance than ballet, the dancers in this intermediate level class will learn to use more energetic movements when performing jazz steps. Dancers will focus on executing higher levels of jazz moves such as pivot turns, jazz squares, and side leaps.

Dress Code: Students should wear tan jazz shoes, jazz pants, leotard or solid colored t-shirt. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a neat ponytail or braid.
