Tiny Tutus and Mini Movers

Ages: 2–3 (must be 2 as of 9/30)

Through stories, dance movement, instruments, and crafts, these tiny dancers will develop their creativity and learn dancing skills in a fun and nurturing environment.  Ballet attire and pink ballet shoes for girls, black ballet shoes for boys are suggested. Boys and girls can also wear comfortable clothing which allows a wide range of movement as well as light soled sneakers (optional). Diapers and Pull-ups are acceptable. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a ponytail, braid, or headband.

Combining ballet & tap together introduces a variety of rhythmic and elegant dance movements. Dancers will begin to recognize patterns of percussion in addition to learning basic ballet skills.  Ballet attire, tights or bobby socks, tap shoes, and pink leather ballet shoes are required for girls. Shorts or jazz pants, tee-shirt, black ballet shoes, and tap shoes are required for boys. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a ponytail, braid, or headband.

This introductory tap and jazz dance class focuses on basic jazz positions and steps such as parallel positions and jazz walks, as well as the rhythms and fundamentals of tap. Vocabulary and definitions of movement will be integrated into the dance class to begin to develop a foundation for technical skills for each dance form. Classical Ballet & Character Dance

Taught by our own Russian Ballerina, Ms. Kudinova will teach the technique and movements of classical ballet.  This is an intermediate level of ballet which will build on the dancer’s already established technical foundation of dance. In addition, the dancers begin to learn the choreography of some popular ballets. Traditional cultural dances will also be introduced in this class. Ballet attire, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, (pull-on skirt optional) are required for girls. Shorts or jazz pants, tee shirt, and black ballet shoes are required for boys. Hair should be pulled away from the face, preferably in a bun or French twist, ponytail, braid, or headband.

As jazz is a more expressive form of dance than ballet, the dancers in this intermediate level class learn to use more energetic movements when performing jazz steps. Dancers focus on executing higher levels of jazz moves such as pivot turns, jazz squares, and side leap. Dancers should wear tan jazz shoes, jazz pants, leotard, or t-shirt. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a ponytail, braid, or headband.

Pop and Lock Hip Hop

This class focuses on rhythm, musicality, and basic footwork necessary to gain the skill of “pop” and “locking.”  Dancers are encouraged to express themselves freely through movement while keeping it “cool.” It’s a fun way to get kids moving! Tappin’ Time

Tappers in this class will learn tap-rhythm and timing. Proper terminology and musicality are stressed in this Intermediate class.  The class will consist of warm-up, center work, and across the floor training. Tap steps such as shuffles, flaps, time steps, buffalo, drawbacks, and more will be introduced and then combined to learn dance routines to all types of music. Dancers should wear a leotard or jazz pants, or leggings with a solid colored t-shirt, tap shoes (lace-up preferred). Hair should be pulled away from the face in a ponytail, braid, or headband.

In this technique focused, advanced tap class, tappers will learn more tap-rhythms, sounds, and combinations. The class will progress onto riffs, pullbacks, time steps, complex turns, and extensive warm-ups.  Students will be challenged to demonstrate the ability to build speed while keeping the clarity of their taps clean. Add all of this to more complicated combinations and intricate dance routines and this becomes a fun and stimulating class.  Dancers may wear more casual but comfortable dance clothing. Hair should be pulled away from the face in a ponytail, braid, or headband.
