NV Rides is delighted to welcome two new partners to its network of volunteer driver programs — Shepherd's Center of Great Falls and Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church. Both groups are launching new volunteer driver programs to serve the needs of non-driving seniors in Northern Virginia.
The mission of The Shepherd's Center of Great Falls (SCGF) is to provide transportation and other needed services to Great Falls seniors wishing to age-in-place. SCGF is affiliated with the national organization Shepherd's Centers of America which focuses on helping seniors age gracefully in their homes. There are about 50 Shepherd Centers operating nationwide, and SCGF will be the seventh group in Northern Virginia.
Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church recently began to focus on ways in which they can strengthen services available to seniors in the community. With the help of NV Rides they are developing a volunteer driver program which is steadily increasing ride services to its non-driving senior neighbors in the Falls Church and Bailey’s Crossroads areas. "Our goal is to create a diverse and welcoming society. We see the opportunity to partner with NV Rides on this initiative as a wonderful way to fulfill our mission of helping our neighbors by providing rides to non-driving seniors in our community and beyond” said Tahani Jabarin, Social Services Director for Dar Al-Hijrah.

J Rides is supported by NV Rides. NV Rides is a network of service providers aiming to enhance and improve volunteer transportation throughout the region. In partnership with Fairfax County and Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA), and with additional support from The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV) is administering this community-wide initiative so that more non-driving older adults will be able to get where they need go at no cost, and “age in place” for as long as possible.
