The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Northern Virginia's Special Needs Program offers unique programming for individuals with communications-spectrum disorders including: high-functioning autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and individuals with sensory motor integration challlenges.
The program is designed to develop physical and social skills for individuals with special needs by uniquely combining therapeutic sessions with inclusion programs. The program features small participant-staff ratios and offers adaptive aquatics, sports-related social programs, family events and recreational social skills classes.

Sensory Integration Camp Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Northern Virginia Fairfax, VA, just one-mile west of the Beltway. Grades K-2 Special Hours: 9am-2pm; Monday-Friday August 23-August 27, 2010
This camp is designed especially to meet the needs of children 6 and 7 years old with sensory integration difficulties. Our camp is staffed with sensory integration clinicians who have adapted activities so campers can best develop while having fun. Adaptive activities offered include: arts and crafts, nature adverentures, music and drama, creative gross motor play and storytelling. Cost: $750 Discounted JCCNV member rate: $600

Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) and the JCCNV present Going Places, social clubs for teens, young adults and adults diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome or related disorders. These three clubs provide social opportunities in a structured and supportive environment with guidance from professionally trained staff who work with participants on improving social skills and overall comfort in social situations.
A variety of outings (including parties, bowling, dinners, miniature golf and museum tours) are scheduled throughout the year. Events are led by JSSA’s Dawn B. Kaye, LCSW and the JCCNV’s Dana Chilbert, MSW. For more information contact Dana Chilbert at DanaC@jccnv.org or (703) 537-3031.
The items on the list below have been identified by the Special Needs Department as tools that the staff can utilize to introduce new and exciting programming to children of all ages, as well as give new life to existing programs.
We hope that you’ll consider donating one or more items on the list so that the JCCNV Special Needs Program will be able to continue to provide quality programming to children, teenagers and young adults with special needs.

For children in grades 1-3 and grades 4-6 The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Northern Virginia and Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) have combined forces to offer a social skills camp in Fairfax for children with communication disorders such as high-functioning autism, Asperger's Syndrome, ADD/ADHD. The day camp's schedule consists of social skills workshops, field trips, swimming, specialty inclusion classes and much more.

Adapted Aquatics The Aquatics Department continues its Adapted Aquatics swim program for persons with disabilities. Lessons teach participants to swim, feel safe and comfortable in the water, and have an enjoyable experience. Each half-hour lesson is designed to be a successful experience in a positive environment.
