Here a just a few highlights:
Repeat of the Very Popular Tour “Like None Other” of Washington, D.C.
Sunday, May 20, depart JCCNV 10:30am; return 5:30pm
Frances Molefsky (“Teacher Fran”), a licensed Washington, D.C. tour guide and conductor for Old Town Trolley Tours of Washington, will narrate a special tour filled with fun, little-known facts—a tour “Like None Other”! The morning tour will include the National Mall and other “tourist sites” but with unusually detailed narration. A stop at the new, magnificent Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial will be included.
Do you know which president let out his wife’s dresses after she became pregnant? Which president used to go skinny dipping in the Potomac River? Which president gave us two baseball traditions? Or which president kept silk worms in the White House? You’ll get all these answers and more on the tour.
Lunch will be at the historic Old Ebbitt Grill. The afternoon tour will consist of a loop to include the embassies, National Cathedral, Georgetown and other sites of interest. A second stop will be at the historic Lafayette Park just north of the White House, with interesting statues, etc.
Note: For those who were on the wait list for the September 2011 trip, you will be given priority; for others, space permitting.
Cost: $30M JCCNV/ $35C (includes all transportation and tour of Washington, D.C. Lunch at Old Ebbitt Grill is a separate charge, order from menu.)
RSVP: Michele Endick, (703) 537-3095, or MicheleE@jccnv.org—call for availability; if space, send or bring in check made payable to JCCNV with “5/20” in memo.
Save the Date! “The Music Man”
Arena Stage Theater Complex
Sunday, June 10, depart JCCNV noon; return 6pm
Enjoy a matinee performance of Meredith Willson’s, The Music Man. “Having exhausted all 102 counties in Illinois, ‘Professor’ Harold Hill gives Iowa a try and soon enough convinces River City of its trouble with the ‘sin and corruption’ of the pool hall, trouble that can only be stopped by forming a boys’ band. Marian, the librarian, suspects he’s a con man, but she begins to trust him after seeing how he’s given confidence to her shy younger brother. Soon, this ‘Music Man’ has transformed the entire town, not only turning the bickering school board into a barbershop quartet, but himself into an honest man. When the stage erupts with ‘76 Trombones,’ you’ll be cheering along with River City for Harold Hill!”
Prior to the show, we will have tables reserved for us in the theater’s Catwalk Café, a casual self-service restaurant that has a variety of “star-worthy selections, ranging from quick bites to eat to custom-designed salads, soups and entrées, featuring flavors inspired by the great American plays currently running at the Arena Stage.” See future issues of The Voice for cost and more details.
