Recreational Youth Dance

JCCNV recreational dance classes include dance and creative movement courses that are structured to encourage movement and socialization in a fun and encouraging environment.  These classes do not perform in our annual recital.  

Monday Dance Party

Mondays, 3:30pm-4:15pm

Ages: 5–10

Students dance to age appropriate hip-hop and jazz music while learning new choreography and dance steps each week. They are given an opportunity to create their own dances and contribute to the choreographic process during each week’s presentation. Students dance barefoot and should come dressed in clothes that are easy to move in (no skirts or jeans please).

Creative Ballet

Tuesdays, 4:30pm-5:15pm

Ages: 5–10

Students explore the world of ballet using a creative class process. This is a great class for those who have an interest in ballet and dance, but have never taken a class. The relaxed setting emphasizes ballet vocabulary, the creative process and movement exploration. Students should wear a leotard and pink tights with pink ballet shoes.

Tumbling Skills

Thursdays, 4:30pm-5:30pm

Ages 5–10

Students learn basic tumbling skills (forward rolls, bridges, cartwheels, walkovers, round offs, and handsprings) while gaining strength and flexibility. If your child has an interest in gymnastics or going upside down, this is a great place to start. Students should wear tight fitting, comfortable clothing (leotard and shorts are preferred). No shoes are needed for this class.

Theater Dance

Thursdays, 5:30pm-6:15pm

Ages: 11–18

This class is for junior high and high school students who have an interest in musical theater, but have little to no dance experience. This is a great class to help your actor land his/her next big role! Students should wear comfortable clothes and jazz shoes or theatrical heels/character shoes.

Fitness for Dancers

Thursdays, 6:30pm-7:15pm

Ages: 11–18

The curriculum for this class will vary from aerobic exercise to Pilates and yoga. No previous dance experience is needed for this class. Students should wear comfortable workout attire and sneakers.

Creative Movement (home school dance)

Wednesdays, 11:45am-12:30pm

Ages: 5–8 and 9–12

This exploratory dance class examines movement, team building and creativity. Students learn about different styles of dance and work with the Instructor to create dances from the materials they have learned. The Instructor also works with parents to infuse key educational elements into their already set curriculum.

If your dancer is interested in moving up to our pre-professional program, the focus of private lessons is an excellent way to make that transition. There are many different packAges available that can be customized to the situation and goals.
