Programs

By developing programming that is both within and beyond the walls of the JCCNV, the Community Engagement Department strives to inspire Jewish journeys and serve as a catalyst for families in Northern Virginia to seek out deeper participation in Jewish life. Extensive outreach efforts support programs that are designed to emphasize Jewish culture, identity and values to people of all ages and backgrounds. Often, these programs are in partnership with area synagogues and Jewish agencies, including The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

Project Welcome Home

Service Members & Veterans,
The JCC of Northern Virginia thanks you wholeheartedly for your service and wants you to feel supported and a part of our community. In 2015, we were selected as one of just six JCCs across the country to pilot Project Welcome Home, a JCC Association initiative that addresses the needs of active duty service members, recent veterans, and their families. We are proud to continue this important program and hope that you will reach out to us so we can contact you with special programs and discounts being offered to service members and veterans in our community.

If you’d like to be added to our Project Welcome Home distribution list, or want more information, contact Laurie.Albert@jccnv.org, 703.537.3064.

Love and Religion: An Interfaith Workshop for Jews andTheir Partners

Being part of an interfaith couple can be challenging, but you don’t need to find the answers alone. This workshop offers you a safe environment to work on creating your religious lives together. You can make Jewish choices while honoring the traditions of both partners.
InterfaithFamily/DC and the JCC of Northern Virginia are now pleased to offer Love and Religion: An Interfaith Workshop for Jews and Their Partners, created by Marion L. Usher, Ph.D. facilitated by InterfaithFamily/DC Director, Rabbi Sarah Tasman.

Love and Religion sessions will meet Nov. 10, 17; Dec. 1, 9 in Arlington TBA (near metro) plus a Shabbat Dinner to be scheduled by participants
Fee: The cost is $140 per couple.

You can learn more and watch a short video about the workshop at http://www.interfaithfamily.com/loveandreligion
Couples should participate if they are dating, engaged or newly married, exploring the issue of religion in their relationship, and:
·         Want to have a religious life and are unclear how to discuss this issue with each other;
·         Want to be with other couples who are struggling with the same issues;
·         Want answers to their questions about religious life together, including: Where can we find Jewish clergy to marry us? Can our children be Jewish if my partner does not convert? What does a conversion require? How can we respect both our religions”? How can we approach our parents to help us with these dilemmas? Can our children go to Hebrew school if they are not converted at birth?

Mitzvah Program (ongoing)

Committee Chair: Gail Gurin

The J's Mitzvah Program provides support to those who are in need in our community. Please join fellow members, friends, and staff, as we volunteer on a number of social action projects, including making casseroles for the homeless each month, packing food boxes at an emergency food warehouse, visiting Jewish residents in retirement homes, collecting shoes for our shoebox recycling program, donating food for Thanksgiving baskets, and volunteering during our hypothermia prevention program. If you would like more details about our social action programs, please contact Carla.Rosenfeld@jccnv.org, 703.537.3060.
