Life in the Negev: Breaking the Myth of Camels, Oases and Tents
Thursday, January 29, noon-2pm
Noon: Lunch (bring dairy or parve/meatless)
12:30pm: Program
Presented by Dana Kalishov
Dana, will talk about the location, history, ethnic make-up, living conditions and misconceptions about Israel’s desert, the Negev. Having been an anthropology student at Ben Gurion University in the Negev and having lived in Be’er Sheva, the capital of the Negev for 3 years, she personally observed Bedouin life and Israel’s agricultural technology which was developed especially for the Negev’s soil. After this fascinating window into Negev life, you will understand why Ben Gurion’s vision of “making the desert bloom” is a reality.
Coffee, tea, and Israeli snacks provided.
Fee: $3/ Free member

Power of the Parties: Understanding the Knesset
Wednesday, February 11, 7:30pm
Facilitated by Dana Kalishov, Community Shlicha, NoVa

Likud, Yesh Atid, Yisrael Beiteinu and more than ten other political parties exist in the Knesset today (that doesn’t even include the twenty plus parties who ran initially in the election). The influence that each party has in Israel’s election process is complex and diverse, and at times challenging to understand. Dana will lead us in an in-depth exploration of the complexities of today’s political parties in Israel.
