Life in the Negev: Breaking the Myth of Camels, Oases and Tents
Thursday, January 29, noon-2pm
Noon: Lunch (bring dairy or parve/meatless)
Presented by Dana Kalishov
Dana, will talk about the location, history, ethnic make-up, living conditions and misconceptions about Israel’s desert, the Negev. Having been an anthropology student at Ben Gurion University in the Negev and having lived in Be’er Sheva, the capital of the Negev for 3 years, she personally observed Bedouin life and Israel’s agricultural technology which was developed especially for the Negev’s soil. After this fascinating window into Negev life, you will understand why Ben Gurion’s vision of “making the desert bloom” is a reality.
