1pm: Boxed Lunch (provided)
Steve Samtur, editor and publisher of Back in the Bronx magazine for 25 years will give a fun, nostalgic retrospective of “the Bronx of yesteryear.” He will explain why “The” is always included when speaking of this NY borough and share the names of famous celebrities from The Bronx (there are many) through interviews (Robert Klein, Regis Philbin, Rita Moreno, and many others). Steve will speak about the “Home of The Bronx Bombers” Yankee Stadium, The Hall of Fame for Great Americans, the world renowned Bronx Botanical Gardens and Bronx Zoo, City Island — a small fishing village yes, in The Bronx, the once and still elegant Grand Concourse with gorgeous Art Deco structures, Freedomland — a long gone Disneyland equivalent in the Bronx, and other fun facts with photos and videos. This talk is for non-New Yorkers curious about this “infamous” borough and ex-New Yorkers alike. You know the fun is starting when Mr. Samtur enters playing with a yo-yo! Relive the 40s, 50s and 60s of New York City and learn what is so special about this borough!
We had a huge crowd last year and expect this celebration to be just as popular!
Fee: $28/ $20 member (includes talk and Chanukah lunch – tuna wrap, latkes, salad, and Chanukah dessert and goodies)
