Author of the newly released book The Year I was Peter the Great

Marvin Kalb, award-winning journalist and scholar, spent 1956 in the Soviet Union working at the US Embassy as an interpreter/translator and occasional press attache. This book, his 15th, is his first memoir. It describes his early life in New York City, his training as a Russian expert at Harvard, and, after this extraordinary year in Moscow, his hiring by Edward R. Murrow to be CBS's Moscow correspondent. Why did Khrushchev call him Peter the Great? What happened when Marvin visited his
mother's birthplace in Kiev? Why was he almost arrested in central Asia? Marvin’s
latest book will be for sale and signing after the program. Join us for this
exciting presentation and a light nosh.
