Tap

A percussive dance form that takes tremendous rhythm and balance. These classes explore the structure, vocabulary, and music that encompass tap. Female students should wear solid colored leotards, tan tights, black leather lace up tap shoes, and hair in a neat ponytail. Male students should wear jazz pants, a solid colored t-shirt, and black leather lace up tap shoes.

Jazz/Hip Hop

A high-energy dance form done to the music genres of rap, R&B and pop. Study of this form develops the student’s sense of creative movement, rhythm, strength and coordination. Students should wear black jazz sneakers or tan leather slip-on jazz shoes, shorts or pants, hair in a neat ponytail, and a leotard (girls) or a solid colored t-shirt (boys).

Ballet

Ballet is a remarkably expressive, nonverbal art form that creates a mood or tells a story through apparently effortless movement. The study of ballet, however, is rigorous and is designed to improve body carriage and coordination. Students should wear the appropriate colored leotard for their level (please reference the parent manual), pink footed or convertible tights, pink ballet shoes or properly fitted pointe shoes for pointe classes, and hair in a neat bun. Please, no ballet skirts for Ballet I–III. Boys should wear a solid colored t-shirt instead of a leotard and black ballet shoes. Our ballet classes are instructed in a contemporary style. While technique and vocabulary are a large part of our curriculum; we also encourage creativity and unconventional choreographic structure.

Modern Dance

This dance form was created as a rebellion against ballet. Our classes focus on fusion of techniques (Graham, Limon, Horton), floor work and the creative process. Students should wear tan, footless or convertible tights, shorts or tight fitting pants, and a leotard (girls) or a solid colored t-shirt (boys). No dance shoes are needed, footundeez can be worn.

Summer Intensives

Dance Company Intensive

Ages: 9+
Monday–Friday, August 19–23
9am–4pm

This is a one-week dance intensive that will work to whip you back into shape from your long rested summer. Each day we’ll focus on different dance techniques and fitness activities to help strengthen your bodies for the fall. This intensive fulfills the summer dance requirement for all company members, and the last Friday of camp will count as your audition into the company! Female dance students should come each day wearing a black leotard, pink ballet tights, pink ballet shoes, jazz shorts or pants, and hair in a neat ponytail. Male dance students should wear jazz pants, a solid colored t-shirt and black ballet shoes. Please also bring a parve or dairy lunch, bathing suit, towel, water bottle, running sneakers and a notebook.

Tumbling Skills Intensive

Ages: 9+
Monday–Friday, August 26–30
9am–4pm

This is a one-week intensive that will help older students develop and perfect their tumbling skills to be used in various dance styles. Students will work to learn cartwheels, round offs, backbends, handstands, walkovers, handsprings and more. This will be an intense week, so come ready to work hard! Students should come each day in a leotard (boys should substitute with a t-shirt), tight fitting shorts or pants, and hair in a neat ponytail. Please also bring a parve or dairy lunch, bathing suit, towel, water bottle, and running sneakers.

Youth Dance Company Auditions

Ages: 9+
Sunday, August 25, 2pm–4pm

We have two performance-based dance companies that invite dancers to participate in the program after they attend our annual Dance Company audition. The Company program runs from September–June. The cost for the Company program is $2,100 per dance year, which includes company rehearsals, ballet, technique and flexibility, and any two additional dance classes. Students who participate in this Company must be enrolled in a minimum of five hours of dance per week and participate in summer dance lessons or intensives. Auditions are held at the end of August each year and students must be present to be considered.
