Adult Dance Classes

Providing quality dance education since 1990, the mission of the JCCNV Dance Academy is to provide a safe and supportive learning environment where dancers of all skill levels may embrace this remarkably expressive, nonverbal art form. The program is based on cooperation, appreciation and dedication to the art of dance.  

Adult Dance Classes are a relaxed and easy-going way to learn something new and get in shape. At this time, tap and jazz are offered. No strict dress code. Try something new and invite your friends. Dance is a great way to have fun and stay in shape.

Discounted Program & Class Rates

JCCNV members are referred to as Mishpacha (family) and nonmembers are warmly referred to as Chaverim (friends). As a benefit of membership, the JCCNV offers Mishpacha discounts on classes and programs which you’ll see noted throughout the program guide by an M following the cost. Our Chaverim (friends) rates are followed by a C. Of course, in order for membership rates to apply, membership must remain current throughout the duration of the class/program.

All-adult dance academy classes begin the week of September 12 and end the week of May 6. Adult classes can be paid by using class cards (pricing listed below).

Adult Tap
Beginning/Intermediate
Wednesdays, 6:30pm–7:30pm

Tap is a rhythmic and percussive dance form done in special shoes that augment the dance movement with a variety of sounds. Tap develops the student’s timing and rhythm and can enhance the study of other dance forms. Tap shoes and leotards must be worn to allow the instructor to properly observe body alignment and form.

Adult Hip Hop
Beginning/Intermediate
Tuesdays, 7:30pm–8:30pm

A high-energy dance form performed to the music of rap, R&B and pop. Study of this form develops the student’s sense of creative movement, rhythm, strength and coordination. Comfortable clothes and dance sneakers should be worn to class. (Sneakers worn outdoors will not be allowed in the dance studio.)

Israeli Dance (Ongoing)
Tuesdays, 8:30pm
Preregistration not required.

These are both traditional folk dances and modern creations performed to Israeli music. Be the only one at the next Bar/Bat Mitzvah to really know how to dance!

Cost: $6M/ $7C/ $5 students
Pay instructor directly.

 

Intermediate Line Dance
Sundays, January 8–February 26 (8 weeks)
11am–noon
Instructor:  Isabelle Nguyen

Classes are designed to improve your fitness level and pump fun into your veins. Students are taught a variety of dances while learning specific steps.

Isabelle Nguyen teaches basic line dancing at several locations around Northern Virginia. She comes highly recommended and teaches intermediate level as well as basic line dance steps. Isabelle will help you to move gracefully in tempo with the music. Ongoing, 8-week sessions throughout the year.

Do You Want to Dance?  Private Ballroom Dance Lessons
Instructor: Geri Falek

Are you preparing for an upcoming wedding or just want to learn certain dances for the sheer enjoyment? Geri began ballroom dancing with her husband Barry, here at the JCC, 14 years ago (it was their first date!) They have studied regularly in the DC area and in New York. Together, they delight in encouraging couples to dance. All classes will be tailored to your needs and time frame. Geri is donating her fee to help support the cultural arts programming at the JCCNV.
