Composer Avner Dorman Discusses His New Work:
“Lost Souls” Thursday, March 11, 7:30pm Israeli-born, world-renowned composer Avner Dorman discusses and presents examples from his new work for piano and orchestra, “Lost Souls,” in which he explores the “ghosts of music’s past.” The piece was written for fellow Israeli-born pianist Alon Goldstein and will be performed for only the second time this time by the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. (See below.) Dorman holds a doctorate from the Juilliard School. At the age of 25, he was the youngest winner of Israel’s prestigious Prime Minister’s Award and was also awarded the Golden Feather Award from ACUM (the Israeli Society of Composers and Publishers). Since coming to the United States, Dorman has received several international awards from ASCAP, ACUM and the Asian Composers League. On Saturday, March 13, the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra will give the East Coast premiere of Dorman’s “Lost Souls,” with pianist Alon Goldstein as soloist, at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts.
