Summer 2017

Petite Ballet
Mondays, July 10–August 14
(6 weeks)
1pm–1:45pm
Ages: 3–5 (Must be 3 as of 6/30)
Instructor: Brenda Forsley
For those wishing to concentrate their energy on ballet, this course focuses on the structure, vocabulary, and music of the art form. Students express themselves through ballet movement while developing grace and discipline that they will use as they grow. Ballet attire and pink leather ballet slippers are required. Hair should be secured in a neat ponytail, braid, or bun.

Introducing ballet and tap together provides a wide variety of structure, vocabulary, and rhythms. Students develop strength, agility, and flexibility and begin to recognize patterns through movement. Ballet attire, tap shoes, and pink leather ballet slippers are required. Hair should be secured in a neat ponytail, braid, or bun.

Petite Jazz, Hip Hop, and Tumbling
Wednesdays, July 12–August 16 (6 weeks)

Give your budding dancer a little taste of jazz, hip hop, and tumbling! They will explore the rhythms and precision of jazz, the beats and moves of hip hop, and the strength and agility of tumbling. Students should wear stretchy pants, tight-fitting tops or leotards, and jazz shoes or clean sneakers.

Through stories, crafts, games, and exploration, students will develop their creativity and begin dancing in a nurturing and respectful environment. Through the execution of movement patterns, a child’s visual perception and sequential learning skills are greatly strengthened, while having fun and building a foundation of the art form. Ballet attire and pink leather ballet slippers are required.

Modern dance was born from already established ballet movements, which successfully explore a new form of art by modern master creators: Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Paul Taylor, and Mark Morris. This form of dance emphasizes every aspect of our experience and expectation of our modern life today. Students should wear tan footless or convertible tights, shorts, or tight-fitting pants, and a leotard (girls) or a solid colored t-shirts (boys). No dance shoes are worn for this class.

Ballet

Ballet is an expressive, non-verbal dance form requiring discipline in the art to achieve the strength and flexibility to make the movements appear graceful and effortless. Girls should wear a solid colored leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a neat bun. Boys should wear a solid colored t-shirt, black tights or tight-fitted pants, and black ballet shoes.

Jazz

Jazz is an artistic, iconic, American dance that combines and expresses a suggestive and soulful, and at times spicy, dance. Students should wear tan jazz shoes, jazz pants, and a leotard (girls) or a solid-colored t-shirt (boys). Hair must be secured away from the face.

Tap

Tap is a percussive dance form that develops tremendous rhythm and balance. These classes explore the structure, vocabulary, and music involved with tap. Female students should wear solid colored leotards, tan tights, black leather lace up tap shoes, and hair secured in a neat ponytail. Male students should wear jazz pants, a solid colored t-shirt, and black leather lace-up tap shoes (stacked or wood are preferred).

Fairytale Dance Camp

Grade: Rising-K
July 10–14 (1 week)
9am–4pm
Through stories, games, crafts, and movement, students learn to appreciate dance through a creative lens. Each day will be focused around a different fairy tale. Students will read the story, then dance to the music, embody the characters, and create related art projects. Each day also includes swimming, ballet and tap technique fundamentals, and a Princess/Prince Tea Party. Your young dancer will feel like royalty by the end of this camp!

Superstar Camp

Grades: 1–3
July 17–21 (1 week)
9am–4pm 

Become a superstar this summer by learning about the greatest music and dance icons of the 20th and 21st centuries, including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Martha Graham, Gene Kelly, and more! While dancing to the tunes of the greatest artists of all time, students will learn dance styles such as ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, and tap. Superstar campers will also create costumes inspired by the dance and music icons about which they will be learning! These costume creations will be worn at an informal in-studio performance on the last day of camp. Each day will also include free-swim at the pool!

Frozen Dance Camp

Grade: Rising-K

Beat the summer heat with our Frozen-inspired dance camp! Students will learn basic ballet and tap fundamentals while dancing to their favorite music from the movie Frozen, creating Frozen-themed crafts, and enjoying free swim in the pool. There will be an informal presentation on the last day of camp.

Music Video Camp

Grades: 1–3

9am–4pm
Have you ever dreamed of dancing in a hit music video? Here’s your chance! We will create our own music video, starring YOU! Learn all the dance moves from our professional instructors and take part in designing the costumes and props for the coolest music video you’ll ever see! Friday will be our viewing party for friends, family, and the entire camp; complete with a live performance! All dancers will receive a personal DVD to take home as a keepsake.

Movin’ & Groovin’ Camp

Expose your young dancers to the joy of hip hop in this one-week camp! Featuring more than just hip hop dance, this camp also explores jazz and funk grooves, and is filled with fun crafts and activities including free swim. There will be an informal presentation on the last day of camp.

Sampler Dance Camp

Grades: 1–3
August 14–18 (1 week)
9am–4pm
This dance camp will allow students to explore a variety of dance styles, such as ballet, jazz, hip hop, modern, and tap, as well as composition, costume design, dance history, and performance techniques. Campers also participate in swimming and art activities. There will be an informal performance on Thursday, August 17. On the last day of camp, students will participate in the all-J Camp Achva field trip!

The Rockdaniot

Ages: 9–18 by audition only
Dress Code: Rockdaniot uniform
The Rockdaniot is a performance and competition troupe for advanced dancers, ages 9 and up. The Rockdaniot was formed to give j.dance’s elite dancers leadership opportunities and more chances to perform. Members will perform at local competitions as well as other dance opportunities that may present themselves throughout the year. Members are required to take 2 ballet classes, jazz, and Sunday Rockdaniot rehearsals. The fee for The Rockdaniot includes all required classes, rehearsals, uniforms, costumes, competitions, and conventions. There is an additional fee for students who wish to compete with solos or duets/trios. Admittance to the Rockdaniot is by audition only.
