Special Needs Camps

Camp Kadima & Camp Chaverim

INCLUSION AT JCCNV SUMMER CAMPS: We support the inclusion of all children in camp. We follow the model that all people deserve to be included into society no matter one’s physical, social, or emotional barriers. Camp is a place to learn, grow, and have fun! We encourage everybody to experience camp sometime in their life. If your child needs additional support to successfully participate in Camp Achva, we can arrange for a shadow that would be a good fit for your child. A shadow is an additional $10/hr. We look forward to supporting you and your child to encourage a successful and fun-filled summer! Please contact Jessica Tischler, Special Needs Director, at JessicaT@jccnv.org or (703) 537-3031 to arrange for a shadow or other accommodations.

Kadima is a fun, social skills therapy camp for children with Asperger’s, ADD/ADHD, and related disorders. Kadima means “forward” or “let’s go!” which is meaningful as the goal of camp is to provide positive experiences for children to absorb life skills to move forward in making individual progress. Kadima’s mission is to improve social and emotional skills in a safe and nurturing environment. The camp is designed to provide opportunities to build self-esteem, social competence, independence, self-awareness, and to foster positive friendships. Campers learn and grow dynamically as the camp is designed for social success in an inclusive environment.

The camp day includes social skills therapy in conjunction with typical camp activities such as swim, sports, arts and crafts, and music.

Social Skills curriculum includes but is not limited to:

  • Team-building and teamwork
  • Winning/losing
  • Impulse control
  • Coping strategies
  • Anger management
