BASE Staff

Do you love working with children? Are you looking for part time employment? Then we have the perfect job for you! The J’s Before- and After-Camp Care program is looking for enthusiastic, responsible and caring young adults to work with our campers from 7:30am–9am and 3:15pm–6pm. Days and hours are flexible depending on your schedule. Please see the attached application. Skills required for this job are to be reliable, responsible, positive attitude, flexibility and the desire to be a mentor, leader and role model. Previous experience working with children is a plus but not a necessity.

Salary depends on age and experience. Ranging from $7.25-$12.00/ hour.

Community Engagement

Project Welcome Home Coordinator

Reports to: Community Engagement Director

Part-Time Position: 10 hours / week

The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (Fairfax) seeks a qualified, outgoing, creative, organized individual to work part time as the Project Welcome Home Coordinator in Northern Virginia.

The Project Welcome Home Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing activities and events for military families. The primary goal will be building relationships, welcoming and helping families along their Jewish journey, providing them with resources as needed, connecting them with other families and/or military families and to the larger Jewish community.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with supervisor to develop and implement programs that take place within the Northern Virginia community.
  • Responsible for creating appropriate content for web based page specific to Project Welcome Home.
  • Responsible for administrative tasks for each program
  • Work with JCC Marketing Director to secure promotional materials and promote programs throughout the community.
  • Ensure tracking, budgeting, reporting and evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Participate and serve as a resource on steering and planning committees and serve as a resource to members of the community.
  • Write up and submit reports/evaluations as required.
  • Work with other staff in the department and at the JCC, attend all-staff meetings.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology or related field and related work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Northern Virginia and its communities.
  • Familiar with and/or has a background working with the military or military organizations.
  • Knowledgeable about Jewish traditions, holidays and customs.
  • A team player who understands the importance of collaboration and community.
  • Confidence to act independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with a wide range of people.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, web based applications, and social media.
  • Valid driver’s license and a car.

Early Childhood Learning Center


Join the dedicated team at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia Early Childhood Learning Center. We are seeking dynamic teachers to join our educational team for our year-round, full-day early childhood center for infants through Pre-K. The ECLC is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and our staff co-teaches in a professional, collaborative, Jewish environment.

Full-time positions begin as soon as possible. Looking for experienced professionals with experience or knowledge of emergent curriculum, project approach, and/or Reggio Emilia inspired philosophy. All applicants must have experience working with young children, be organized, have excellent writing skills and a good understanding of digital and media languages. Applicants do not need to be of the Jewish faith but must be open to learning. CDA, AA or BA in Early Childhood Education (or child related field) is required. Family Services Department

Day Camps/School-Age Services

 Associate Director

The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia seeks a visionary and charismatic professional for the position of Associate Director of School-Age Services and Day Camps. This is a full time position within the Family Services Department focused on the development, planning and execution of the JCCNV Before and After School Enrichment (BASE) program as well assists with the development and implementation of programming including the summer curriculum for J Camps. This individual must possess strong leadership, management and communication skills; be highly organized, well versed in budget creation and oversight and have the ability to build partnerships within the agency and in the community.

Minimum qualifications:


•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Recreation or a related field. Master’s Degree Preferred
•One to three years of management/supervisory and camp leadership experience.
•A strong knowledge of Jewish culture, heritage, and traditions.
•Financial management skills, i.e., budget preparation and reconciliation.
•Proven experience in customer service management and quality service delivery.
•Working knowledge of short, long-term planning, and program development.
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher)


•Demonstrate good character and integrity.
•Must have enthusiasm, be adaptable, and possess an EXCELLENT work ethic.
•Self-directed with ability to accept guidance.

JCCNV Camps offers a wide range of staffing opportunities.  We have positions ranging from general counselor to specialist with all age groups, starting at 2 years old through high school. The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (Fairfax) is currently seeking instructors for all styles of dance. Dance Instructors are responsible for planning class content and curriculum and choreographing pieces for the end-of-program performances. Classes are offered in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, and Tap. The J is a member of the National Dance Education Organization and the Virginia Dance Coalition.

Qualifications: Ideal candidates will be professional, energetic, and have experience teaching children ages 5-15. Bachelor’s degree preferred. This is a part-time position. Salary is dependent on experience.

USA Swimming Head Coach needed for competitive swim team, Monday - Friday after school/11 hours a week.

Special Needs Department

Social Skills Therapist for special needs summer camp:

The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV) is looking for an experienced, credentialed candidate to be the social skills therapist for our special needs 8-week summer camp. The camp is for children with High Functioning Autism, ADD/ADHD, and related disorders.  The camp is designed to provide opportunities to build self-esteem, social competence, independence skills, self-awareness and to foster positive relationships. Campers learn and grow dynamically as the camp is designed for social success in an inclusive environment. The camp day includes social skills therapy in conjunction with general camp activities such as swim, sports, arts and crafts, music, field trips, all-camp activities and much more!

The job entails writing the curriculum and facilitating the therapy for school-aged children with assistance from the camp staff. Must be able to plan independently, be flexible, creative, comfortable managing challenging behaviors, lead and manage counselors in helping to facilitate lessons, have patience and a great sense of humor. Seeking a candidate with credentials (ie psychologist, LCSW, etc.) preferably with experience in the Social Thinking, Unstuck and On Target, and/or relevant curriculum in addition to experience with recreation-based social activities. 

Responsibilities also include attending and facilitating orientation and parent meetings.  This is a full-time summer position from July 5–August 26 with additional dates/times as needed as well as overnight trips as needed. Willing to consider part-time availability. Priority will go to dedicated individuals who can commit to the whole Summer.

Part-Time Special Needs Shadows

The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (the J) is looking for part-time staff to shadow children with special needs in our before- and after-school programs. Daily activities in this inclusive program range from board games, playground, art projects, homework assistance, etc.  Being a shadow includes aiding a child with a special need in staying on task, redirecting when needed and helping him/her to have a positive experience as they interact with peers and engage in activities. These children have autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADD/ADHD or other related disorders. Hours can vary but are typically Monday through Friday between 7:30am–9am and/or 3:15pm–6pm, depending on what days/times the child is registered for.
